My name is Deborah Martinelli and was born and raised in Morgantown, WV so I am a mountaineer through and through. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am now living in Hagerstown, MD and working as the evening producer for WDVM News in for their 7 p.m, 7:30 p.m, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
I have been interested in television and the media since I can remember, and now I am getting a chance to actually be a member of it. I have had the pleasure of having some really great internship and job opportunities that have helped me progress in the journalism world.
At my time with Fayette County TV, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, I was able to work alongside the two hosts to produce a weekly show called ‘Going Live’. I booked the guests, created interview questions, and managed the behind the scenes when the show went live. At WV MetroNews, I started as an unpaid intern and am now a paid part time video production assistant for the last 2 years. I’ve experienced many aspects of radio broadcasting from producing the live streams for several of the network’s biggest shows and personalities (Statewide Sportsline with Tony Caridi and Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval) to editing highlights and filming postgame players and coaches reactions from the press box at WVU football and basketball games. As an intern with WDTV 5 News in Bridgeport, West Virginia, I worked with the executive producer to stack the evening broadcasts, wrote VO scripts and teases, and edited national news packages.
In the fall of 2015, I was the Executive Producer for WVU Reed College of Media’s inaugural sports magazine show ‘Mountaineer Playbook’ (we completed six broadcasts) and was also the Executive Producer for its Emmy award winning ‘WVU News’. In this role, I critiqued and selected the packages to be featured in five different newscasts during the semester, wrote the scripts, and directed the talent on the day of filming. In addition, I assisted reporters in filming, editing, and finalizing scripts for their individual packages.
I hope I can continue to grow and learn more about the ever changing industry of journalism to ultimately land my dream job as a producer for E! Entertainment or ESPN.
In my free time I enjoy running, watching reality television, cheering for my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates, and spending time with my family.
